Kirby’s career in the arts has touched practically every facet of the entertainment industry from opera to cartoon voiceovers. He has written for television, stage and film, sang and danced in the showrooms of Las Vegas, headlined with symphonies all over the world and starred on London’s West End and New York’s Broadway stages.
As a writer, Kirby penned numerous episodes of the popular children’s 90’s television show Wake, Rattle and Roll which has been seen more recently in syndication on the Disney Channel. He’s a co-creator of the musical The Gypsy King, which was presented at the Village Theatre in Issaquah, Washington in 2007. As filmmaker, Mr. Ward’s original short, Down in the Mouth, received the Best Short Film award at the Kent Film Festival in Kent, Connecticut. The film was also an “Official Selection” at five other national and international film festivals including the Los Angeles Shorts film festival in 2007.
As an actor, Mr. Ward was the original Bobby Child in the British premier of Crazy For You, a performance that garnered him an Olivier Award nomination, an album and a command performance for the Queen of England in 1993. He was featured as Frank Schultz in Hal Prince’s Broadway revival of Show Boat! in 1995. In more recent years he has directed and choreographed large and small scale stage productions on three continents. Mr. Ward has twice been named Best Director of the year in Boston and received San Diego Critics Circle Awards for Best Director of a Musical and Best Choreography for 2006. Mr. Ward received his formal training in film direction and choreography at the elbow of famed director and choreographer Joe Layton when he teamed with him on the film For The Boys, assisting in the creation of musical sequences for Bette Midler and James Caan.
