Writer/Director:

Kirby has been involved in the entertainment industry for almost thirty years in theatre, film and television. He cut his directorial teeth in Los Angeles regional theatre, winning numerous critic’s choice awards for his work. He’s directed and choreographed all around the world, including the recent Korean premiere of Crazy For You in Seoul (2004). As a choreographer, Kirby caught the attention of such notable stars as Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor and his work for them has been featured on the Tonight Show.

His desire to work in film began when he set foot on the set of For the Boys. Originally contracted to coach James Caan and Bette Midler on the musical sequences, he was soon asked to continue on the film as assistant to the late/great choreographer Joe Layton. This allowed him the opportunity to work alongside director Mark Rydell and cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt who were generous with both their time and knowledge. It was in their passion and commitment to the art that Kirby found his own inspiration to pursue filmmaking. Kirby’s work on the film sequences of his 2002 Singin’ In The Rain in Boston undoubtedly played a large part in making it the theatre’s most acclaimed show in their forty-year history, winning him the IRNE Award (Independent Reviewers of New England) for Best Director of the Year. Critic’s unanimously applauded his skillful use of 16mm film in that production. In television he was a writer for the daily syndicated TV shows Wake, Rattle & Roll and Monster Tales for Hanna Barbera Studios in Los Angeles.

As an actor audiences on London’s West End know him as the original Bobby Child in the British premier of Crazy For You, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination and can be heard on the original London cast recording. American theatergoers have seen him on Broadway and on tour as Frank Schultz in Hal Prince’s Show Boat!, as well as countless roles in regional theatres coast to coast.

He has directed, produced, and edited documentary and promotional films for a wide range of clients.

Chris is a graduate of The Burlington Technical Center of Vermont's Media Arts Program where he studied under filmmaker Philip Mozeika. He has also completed a series of professional apprenticeships as a motion picture lighting technician and first assistant cameraman. This has led to work as a special effects supervisor and director of photography. Before becoming a full-time cinematographer and filmmaker, Chris designed and fabricated mechanical stage rigging and puppets for Broadway with Jerard Studio in Brooklyn, NY. Projects included extensive design and fabrication for The Producers, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Boy From Oz.
